MCP
VS Code
Visual Studio Code supports MCP servers natively. You can connect Clickbase to VS Code and use it with GitHub Copilot agent mode or another MCP-compatible extension.
Prerequisites
- VS Code installed.
- An MCP-compatible extension (e.g. GitHub Copilot).
- A Clickbase team with an active subscription — see Authentication.
One-click install
Every Clickbase docs page has a Connect to VS Code action (in the page-options menu next to "Copy page") that installs the Reader server directly. It opens a deeplink of this form:
vscode:mcp/install?<url-encoded-json>
where <url-encoded-json> is encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify({ name: "clickbase", url: "https://clickbase.so/mcp/reader" })). For the Reader specifically, that resolves to:
vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22clickbase%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fclickbase.so%2Fmcp%2Freader%22%7D
The one-click flow only wires up the Reader. Add the Writer manually if your agent also needs to make changes.
Manual configuration
In your project root, create or edit .vscode/mcp.json:
{
"servers": {
"clickbase-reader": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://clickbase.so/mcp/reader"
},
"clickbase-writer": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://clickbase.so/mcp/writer"
}
}
}
VS Code uses "servers" as the top-level key (not "mcpServers") — this is different from most other MCP clients.
Reload the window or restart VS Code to load the configuration. The first time VS Code calls a Clickbase tool, it opens your browser to complete the OAuth authorization flow — see Connectors.
Global configuration
To make Clickbase available across all projects, use the command palette and run MCP: Open User Configuration to add the servers to your user-level settings.
